Shutts & Bowen LLP Miami Managing Partner Aliette DelPozo Rodz, Chair of the International Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group and Cuba Task Force, discussed the firm’s role in Miami’s growth and its expansion in an increasingly global market in a recent interview with Invest: Miami by Capital Analytics Associates (CAA).
In the interview, Aliette highlighted Shutts & Bowen’s longstanding role in Miami’s growth and evolution into a global business center, from the firm’s early involvement in the city’s development to its work supporting significant projects and international business activity today.
“We have been part of Miami’s growth from the beginning, often in an understated way,” Aliette said. “Historically, the firm’s roots connect directly to Miami’s early expansion. When Henry Flagler came to Miami and decided to invest in this location, he came to Frank Shutts, one of our partners. Shutts represented Flagler and helped with the legal work that supported the railroad, which opened the door to travel and development in Miami.”
She also explored the Miami office’s continued expansion to serve local and international clients, including the growth of its cross-border litigation and arbitration capabilities and Miami’s rising prominence as a forum for international dispute resolution. Additionally, Aliette addressed the firm’s strategic approach to lateral recruitment, its focus on strengthening key practices such as M&A, finance, tax, litigation, arbitration and real estate, and emerging opportunities in areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, technology and intellectual property. She emphasized the firm’s deep Florida roots, commitment to client service and continued investment in the talent and technology needed to serve an increasingly global market.
“We also bring deep Florida roots and credibility,” Aliette said. “The firm has helped support the placement of many judges throughout the state, from state to federal, and up to the Florida Supreme Court. We know our bench, and that local knowledge matters for clients entering the market for the first time. We have also had senior legal leaders join the firm after serving in high-level roles, which speaks to the quality of the work and the reputation behind the name.”
